Zyprexa Side Effects

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a black box warning about antipsychotics increasing the risk of death in the elderly with dementia. Adverse Reaction Reports Filed with the US FDA: There have been 14,613 adverse reactions reported to the US FDA in connection with Zyprexa (olanzapine).

The FDA estimates that less than 1% of all serious events are ever reported to it, so the actual number of side effects occurring are most certainly higher.

  • 1,036 cases of hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • 1,032 cases of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • 911 cases of overdose
  • 856 cases of hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar)
  • 796 cases of death
  • 721 cases of blood triglycerides increased
  • 635 cases of diabetic ketoacidosis (build up of the chemical ketone in the blood)
  • 597 cases of metabolic disorder
